The MSO (managed second surgical opinion system) provides an automated second surgical opinion for areas where surgery is often over prescribed. That automated second surgical opinion is send to a second opinion physician, who can review both attending physician and expert system based comments to adjudicate several opinion and make the clinically best decision.

The system has had a major impact on reducing the incidence of unnecessary surgery, and is helping its user to provide more consistent and higher quality care in its managed care networks. The system has been in routine use since 1989.
